Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Sophie and Steve had an educational day at one of the T & T Supermarkets learning about the traditional Chinese foods that are popular during the Lunar New Year… They also brought some things for us to try on the show… including Black Moss…

According to Wikipedia
Fat choy, also known as faat choy, fa cai, black moss, hair moss or hair weed is a terrestrial cyanobacterium (a type of photosynthetic bacteria) that is used as a vegetable in Chinese cuisine. When dried, the product has the appearance of black hair. For that reason, its name in Chinese means “hair vegetable.” When soaked, this vegetable has a very soft texture which is like very fine vermicelli, and an appearance very similar to long, black, human hair.

How does it taste you wonder? Well why don’t we let Mark answer this question…

New member to the Global BC family

Maybe it’s something in the water… or maybe its something in the food from our vending machines… or maybe… well I guess there could be a number of reasons ;) but we do have a few women in our newsroom who are pregnant… including one of the Global BC Reporters Elaine Yong. Congrats to Elaine and Aaron McArthur!!! (Who, by the way, is also a Global BC reporter). So is their baby destined to be a reporter as well? I guess time will tell. Are they having a boy or girl? Well they are pretty sure they already know – she explains in the video – AND they are looking for name suggestions! Leave a comment if you have any name ideas.
