About

I wake up daily feeling blessed because I have such wonderful people around me in both my personal and business life.

Growing up in North Vancouver, I was so lucky to be in close proximity to nature and the city.  And now that I have returned back to the north shore, the love of my hometown has never felt stronger.

My current job as the weekend weather anchor on Global TV in BC is something that love to do and take very seriously.  Weather has formed into a passion of mine and I have found myself viewing the world differently since I developed this “healthy obsession” with meteorology.  Weather really does affect so many aspects of our lives.

Thanks for visiting my blog and I’m always open to your comments or suggestions.. so leave me a comment or question if you have anything to say or ask!

    Hi Wesla,

Enjoyed watching your morning traffic reports and noon weather on Global when I was on my annual visit to BC last week visiting my brother and family who live in Steveston and have a cabin on Galiano Island also.

My question is ” in your 5 exercise video on Facebook how many reps are you doing in each exercise? Are you saying five or 15 reps for each? Those are several great workouts that I have not thought of doing, yet!.

    Bill

  3. Wesla says:

Hi Bill :) thanks for tuning in! My trainer says to do at least 15 reps each. And eventually you should probably do about 20.. And remember don’t let your heart rate drop for about half hour to maximize the work out. Good luck.. and if you want a challenge add some light weights.

Hi Wesla. My husband and I watch you every morning on Global and think you add a soft side to your role as the traffic reporter. You have a “sweetness” about you and we love that you are an animal lover as we are. I remember hearing that for your wedding you suggested your friends make a donation to their local SPCA instead of giving a wedding gift and that made you a winner in our eyes!! Thanks for making our mornings brighter.

    Sincerely,

    Lenore Henry

  5. Wesla says:

Hi Lenore… thanks so much for the comments!!! Yes my husband and I are indeed animal lovers. We socialize with the critters at the Coquitlam animal shelter on a weekly basis and we have a couple of dogs as well. Do you have any pets?

Hi Wesla – what a nice surprise to hear back from you. That is wonderful that you and your husband are involved with the Coquitlam animal shelter. It is very rewarding isn’t it? I have volunteered at our Surrey SPCA walking dogs and although it breaks your heart sometimes, especially knowing that the “senior” dogs might never find a forever home, I always hope that I have made a small difference to the dogs there. We recently lost our 13 year old Golden Retriever to cancer but we still have our other dog, Bailey who I found 10 years ago when I was out on one of my morning walks. He was only 5 weeks when I found him and he has been the best dog we could ask for. He is a Golden/Lab cross and he is a very gentle and loving boy and is always by my side.

You mentioned you have a couple of dogs…I might be wrong but I seem to remember on one of the Global news shows you had a little white dog with you which looked very sweet and perhaps that was one of yours. I am sure when you are on the Noon News and the Adopt a Pet segment comes on it must be difficult not to want to take them ALL home!! Hopefully with the tv exposure most of them are adopted.

Thanks again for replying and enjoy the sunshine today.

    Lenore

  7. Wesla says:

I’m sorry to hear about the recent loss of your dog. I had a golden retriever a number of years ago, and they are lovely animals. Now I have two American Eskimo crosses. One is from the SPCA and has a few issues since he is afraid of all things moving… but we are working to help him through this.. and yes both of the dogs have been on Global a few times…. so you probably have seen a pic or two :)

    Have a great weekend!!

Hi Wesla – love your red boots today! You always look so stylish. My husband and I just finished watching Adopt a Pet – hopefully the two dogs will find a forever home. They are so sweet.

    Enjoy the sunshine.

Love your red boots on the news this morning. Where did you get them?

  10. Wesla says:

thanks very much – to be honest they are pass me downs from my gf so will check with her and if she remembers i’ll let you know!

  11. Les says:

    Hi,

I remember you were a student at SFU while I was doing my MA in Linguistics. I live in Seoul, South Korea now. I’m a professor in the Department of English Education of a university here.

  12. Wesla says:

Hi Les – thanks very much and congrats on your new job!!! Its been a while since SFU… I’m actually back at school now at the University of Mississippi taking a distance program there. What is it like in Korea?

  13. Jonathan says:

    Hi Wesla!

I was wondering. Back in the days when every person wants to get their driver’s license and drive through the open roads of B.C., what is your first car to take the test, and what is the worst car you’ve ever driven? And, have you watched Top Gear? I’m just a car person, that’s all.

  14. Wesla says:

Hi Jonathan… hmm… I’m not really that into cars but I guess I took my road test on a nissan sentra? As for worst car… my girlfriend had a Tercel I think like an 1988 and it was like a cardboard box…. as for Top Gear.. nope haven’t watched it.. is it a movie?

  15. Jonathan says:

No, Wesla. Top Gear is a British TV show where three middle-aged men (Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May) put new cars, ranging from hot hatchbacks to high-end supercars, to the ultimate test, on the street and on the test track, some of them driven by a tame racing driver.

  16. Patricia says:

    Hi Wesla:

Not sure if this is the place to ask this question but here goes. On Monday you had a lady on global news who was selling body lotion. I didn’t catch the name of the spa she was from but they apparently have a website that one can order from. They were also donating some of the proceeds to the needy. Is there a chance you can get the name of the spa for me.

Thank you so much. Merry Christmas.

  17. Wesla says:

Hi Patricia! Her name is Wendy and she is from Absolute Spa… here’s the website.. http://www.absolutespa.com
Have fun at the spa.. I might be a just a tad jealous ;)

  18. Jonathan says:

    Hi again, Wesla!

I have another question. What were the best and worst moments on Boxing Day? Every time I found a good deal, bad karma kicks me in the rear. For instance, when I can a great deal on an 8GB SD card for $20, my parents’ car battery went dead. And when I went home from Chinatown after buying a pair of sunglasses for $10, there was a problem somewhere in one of the Skytrain stations and every train was packed worse than a can of sardines. Does that happen to you before?

  19. Wesla says:

Hi Jonathan.. hmm to be honest, I don’t recall anything out of the ordinary on Boxing Day… which I guess is a good thing?

  20. Tanya says:

    Hi Wesla,

TOO many have been telling me this and I need to tell you as well – apparently, WE LOOK ALIKE! My colleagues and clients always ask if we are related. My fiance’s colleague printed your picture and posted it beside mine. Everything thinks my fiance is dating “Wesla Wong” (coincidently, my last name is Wong too…).

    =D

  21. Wesla says:

omg you have to send me a pic!!! do you have a facebook account…find me or send me a pic on twitter!!!! haha too funny!

  22. Rachel says:

    Hi Wesla-

I live in north Vancouver (where I think you used to live) and know that you are an outdoor girl and wanted to write with a quick question. There seems to be a really great energy at Global and you all seem to really love Vancouver which gave me an idea. I have a website called northshoreoutdoor.ca where I write about outdoor recreation, health and fitness on Vancouver’s North Shore and I was thinking about how great it would be if Global could do even a little more coverage on the events and outdoor activities available to Vancouverites, maybe even district by district, to highlight how amazing the place is that we live and encourage people to access all that’s available for a healthier, happier, lifestyle. Maybe even send someone out if the field to cover (or participate!) in activities, like you… or me! :)

I don’t know if Global takes viewer suggestions in any formal way (perhaps there is a story submission e-mail?) but even if for no other reason I thought I ‘d write and say what a great job you are doing and how genuine everyone is on the show there!

    Thanks!

  23. Wesla says:

Hi Rachel.. thanks for the suggestion!!! I will definately pass along your info to our producers! and I’ll check out your website too :)

  24. Wesla says:

and yes I really miss the North Shore where I grew up… working on moving back as we speak…

Thought you might want to cover this amazing story about our family and my 17 year old daughter.
On March 21, 2009, my Japanese ex-wife abducted my 6-year-old son Richard and my 14 year old daughter Sasha from Vancouver, Canada. When I phoned my ex-wife in Japan, she told me that he would be staying in Japan forever. Little did I know, my son and daughter had just lost their Canadian rights. They were both entered into Japan as Japanese Citizens, on illegally obtained Japanese Passports.

Days later, with any notice, my daughter was sent back alone, by her mother, on an eleven-hour flight from Tokyo Japan to Vancouver, Canada. I was unaware of this and my daughter arrived at the airport alone and walked around for hours before by chance I called her and found out the situation. She was 14 years old.

Over the next year, I spent more than $200,000 on my son’s recovery; I contacted the Official Office for Children’s Issues with the Government of Canada. I contacted the RCMP (Canadian Police). I legally went through our Canadian court system. I charged my ex-wife with abduction and had her put on Interpol.

I went high up in the Canadian Government and met family whom are Members of Parliament. Canada’s Ambassador to Japan was met several times and agreed to help.
In the end all of these people could not do anything to bring back my son.

I contracted Gus Zamora, (International Child Recovery) http://www.zamoraandassociates.com/Home.html
and gave him over $70,000 in desperation to bring back my son.
I, like many other people were ripped off by this man ! This is a story on it’s own.

I then went to Japan to see my son and was confronted by 20 Japanese police and hauled into the police station and questioned for hours. I was allowed to see my son for a few hours before being escorted back to the airport and put back on an airplane to Canada. I was able to see my son for two hours in two years.

Then my daughter decided to visit her brother in Japan and took several videos of Richard pleading to the Canadian Government for help, claiming he did not want to stay in Japan, he was being abused and needed the Canadian Government’s help.

This video fell on deaf ears at Canadian Parliament and with the Japanese Government.

I decided if I ever wanted to see my son again, I had to bring him back myself.
And on April 27, 2011 I did, with the help of my 17-year-old daughter, Sasha, Richard’s big Sister

I am the first parent in ten years to bring back an abducted child from Japan.

Japan still has not signed the Hague Convention.

This story needs to be told to help the thousands of other parents in similar situations.

  33. Valerie says:

Wesla: how is it when you do the weather and the 3 day forecast for the island comes up and you start talking about something else. What are we – chopped liver?

  34. Wesla says:

HI Valerie – I would never mean to do that – but sometimes my producer tells me that I’m out of time and therefore I have to speed through the regions… Sorry!
