Environment Canada predicts warm, dry summer BUT…

Not so much for us on the west coast… However.. if you live almost anywhere else in the country – get ready for an extended season with your flip-flops!

Being a meteorology student, I’m always looking for information in regards to the climate and forecasts. The other day I was on internet, and this Vancouver Sun article caught my eye: http://tinyurl.com/43rrx8l

First of all, long range forecasts are very unreliable, and second of all, Canada has so many microclimates that a forecast for a whole country that is so geographically large would be very vague. Luckily, I work with one of the best meteorologists in the business…Mark Madryga…so we were able to get his two cents on this article.

PS – Mark didn’t end up doing my homework.

Girls Weekend in Stunning Tofino

I think some of us forget about the beautiful province we live in especially in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I know sometimes I forget. But that’s what last weekend was for… to remember and to reflect…to breathe in the air of the rainforest, to hear the waves of the Pacific Ocean, to drink the wine of the Okanagan, to taste the fresh crabs of Tofino, and most importantly to laugh the joys of life.

Erin Cebula, my dog Jazzy, and I left on Thursday after the Noon News, and headed straight for Horseshoe Bay… little did we know we’d miss the ferry by one car, but in the end, that was okay. We took advantage of the extra two hours that we had an headed to the Boathouse Restaurant and started our weekend off with fresh shuck oysters.. oh and spicy caesars :)

The drive to Tofino was both beautiful and a little scary. In this picture you can see the convection just building mid-island.

On route to Tofino, we stopped in at the Clam Bucket in Port Alberni. Best restaurant ever!  Great food and service!

We had some major snow storms that we had to deal with on route to the Wickinninish Inn, but once we were there, it was like we were set free…

On Friday, we started off with a walk on the beach. Its no wonder why Tofino was voted the place where you can walk on the best beaches in Canada. http://www.tripadvisor.ca/TCBeaches-g153339-Canada.html

Chesterman’s Beach is breathtaking.

Two other girls flew in on Friday afternoon and we spent some time skipping rocks near the docks. Such a simple task, but its amazing what a stress reliever skipping rocks can be.

On Saturday I was lucky enough to go on a tour with the Tlalook Cultural Adventures Group. http://www.tlaook.com  Joe and Gisele took me to Meares Island where we saw 2000 year old trees. Imagine the knowledge and wisdom of something that age…

Saturday night we had an amazing crab dinner. We are so lucky to have these gracious resources in our backyard.

I didn’t want to leave on Sunday. I could have stayed on the beach writing my first album.

Kristi is having a.. boy?

Kristi is hoping for a surprise when she gives birth in July. But… according to some of the other ladies in our newsroom you can determine the sex of the baby using a piece of string and a ring. No one could find any thread in the newsroom so Kristi actually pulled out a piece of my hair as a replacement…. and well did it work? Lynn already knows that she is having a girl, and the ring did exactly what it should do… watch the video for yourself and would love to hear what you think…
